Slate Tiles Cleaning

By staffordcarpet On November 23, 2011 No Comments

We have just finished a job on coloured slate floor to a farmhouse kitchen in Staffordshire.

Normal mopping by hand only serves to push the dirt into the grout lines, causing them to soil to a dark colour from their original white / light grey.

Specialist machine removal of this dirt leaves clean germ free slate flooring.

Commercial and Domestic Carpet Cleaning

By staffordcarpet On November 22, 2011 No Comments

Today, I am showing you an example of, what not to do, to your domestic and commercial carpet.

The accompanying photo shows what the application of bleach did to a Commercial Carpet in Staffordshire.

Superman to the rescue again!!!!   (Not on this occasion).

It would not have proved to be cost effective, nor was the fibre type suitable for a successful attempt.

The type of colour loss which occurred here can, however, be rectified on certain carpet types, quality woven or tufted wool especially.

The process involves the reintroduction of the missing colour after extensive preparation, and has been used to great effect to restore other mishaps.

Leather Sofa Restoration

By staffordcarpet On November 22, 2011 No Comments

An example of a scuff damaged leather sofa in Staffordshire.

This leather sofa was damaged during removal to a new home and repair work was initiated by the insurers.

The job was fairly straight forward, involving cleaning up the affected area, preparation, re-colouring and finally re-sealing the leather suite repair.

Upholstery Cleaning Tips

By staffordcarpet On November 22, 2011 No Comments

Upholstery cleaning is necessary to keep your suites in tip top condition and protect from stains over time.

Here’s some tips on sofa cleaning;

Why your sofa cushions should not be put in the domestic washing machine.

Zips found on suite cushions are not put there to facilitate ease of removal for washing.

They are sewn on so that the foam can be inserted and simply zipped up without the need to go back down the production line, and cost more to produce. It also makes it easy to replace the foam at a later stage.

The most common damage that occurs with natural textiles, is shrinkage; making the covers very difficult to put back on. When back on there is a pulling down at the sides causing a misshaped seat pad or back rest cushion. Certain agents contained in washing detergent can also result in faded cushions in relation to the frame.

A job encountered resulted in this photograph, where the red dye used in the trim piping bled and was absorbed by the main fabric, because the cushions were ‘put into the wash’.

In the picture, the back cushion has just been cleaned; dirt can still be seen on the arms.

Removing Carpet Stains

By staffordcarpet On November 22, 2011 No Comments

Many jobs encountered, involve the removal of carpet stains. These are the main concern of many customers and very often they will have tried to remove the offending marks already.

The biggest mistake made by people is that if the mark doesn’t come out straight away, they ‘chuck some more of the product on’. This is flawed logic because if it doesn’t come out with a little solution then using a whole bucket full won’t make it suddenly work. The product in question may be a cocktail made up of washing-up liquid (or similar); or a branded retail bottle of high street spotter.

The result can take several forms:

The marks don’t go but lighter patches appear around the area, making it stand out even more.

The marks fade or go, but again lighter patches appear, and are more unsightly than the original.

The marks either do or don’t go but, either way the carpet is left with a varying amount of dirt attracting residue, which effectively becomes a dirt magnet. Localised patches of very soiled carpet appear in the ensuing weeks.

The worst result encountered is where a chemical reaction has occurred causing permanent faded areas, as seen below.

All the above can usually be rectified by seasoned professional. A professional carpet cleaner can remove the carpet stain and add a carpet protector to prevent further carpet stains having such a big impact on carpets.

Leather Sofa Cleaning

By staffordcarpet On November 22, 2011 No Comments

A recent job involved cleaning a leather sofa, which had been wrapped up and put outdoors whilst building extension work was carried out, due to lack of internal storage space.

Unfortunately, the weather turned damp and cold, the work took longer than expected and the ‘wrapping’ was not as good as it might have been.

There was a growth of mould appearing when it was time to return  the clean leather suite indoors. Another challenge which looked daunting, (more in the owner’s mind than mine); and which was successfully overcome with great pleasure.

The two leather sofa cushions side by side show the contrast, however, the dirty one had actually already been worked on to a certain degree before I thought to take photographs, so was somewhat worse than is portrayed here.

Leather Suite Cleaning

By staffordcarpet On November 22, 2011 No Comments

Leather suite cleaning by a professional leather upholstery cleaner can keep your leather sofa looking as good as new.

A leather suite was rescued from a trip to the rubbish tip recently. This had been subject to heavy usage and lots of abrasion by children, denim jean seams, and dog claws. It has now been restored to a pride of place position in the household.

The protective seal on the leather sofa had been broken and worn away exposing the top coat of colour, which in turn had eroded away and then the undercoat also, exposing bare leather.

For two reasons this is bad news; it is not only unsightly, but also well on the way to cracks and then holes appearing. Dirt and grease will soak into bare leather and cannot easily be dealt with cost effectively. It would mean panel replacement to put right.

The process to correct this and restore the leather sofa was undertaken in the home, with no disruption to the daily routine, and the furniture ready to use 24 hours later.

Commercial Carpet Chewing Gum Stain Removal Staffordshire

By staffordcarpet On November 21, 2011 No Comments

Staffordshire Carpet Chewing Gum Stain Removal.

Cleaning carpet stains, the ability to get stains out of carpet, and carpet stain removal  in particular chewing gum is a problem to certain business premises and schools. It is easy to remove a few wads, but invariably multiple deposits are found in most affected areas. I often get asked, how to remove stains from carpet, and how to clean carpet, and it is a task best left to a professional carpet cleaning company.

A recently completed task involved somewhere between 2,000 and 2,500 gum wads, plus the heavily soiled carpet itself.

We didn’t count every single piece of gum, but an estimate was made, based on the average coverage per square metre, plus removal rate per hour.

Non too small a challenge which many professional carpet cleaners in Staffordshire would quickly shy away from, but which proved to be a challenge easily overcome with the wealth of experience acquired over the past 25+ years.

So if you want to know how to get stains out of carpet,
